- Outings Week Program: Designed to give your class the chance to come together while enjoying the beauty and challenges of California’s wilderness. As a freshman you’ll travel to Pyles Camp in the Sequoia National Forest, where you’ll hike during the day and spend the evening together around the campfire. During your sophomore trip, you’ll carry in all your food and gear on a backpacking trip in Yosemite National Park. As a junior, you and your accompanying faculty head to the Kern River for a 40-mile-long, full-pack camping trip. When senior year rolls around you have the option of a week of college visits, a camping trip on nearby Santa Cruz Island, or as a leader on an underclassman trip.

-Variety of summer programs including summer philosophy, cate sports academy, cate summer institute, and cate summer outdoors

-Most dorm rooms consist of a balcony or small outdoor space

-Every year all students devote a day to volunteer work

-Chores build responsibility and ownership in students; freshman help in the kitchen, sophomores and juniors maintain the dorms, and seniors supervise and help the underclasses while taking on new leadership roles

-Cate is a part of Round Square which consists of 150 innovative high schools in 40 different countries which all commit to IDEALS (Internationalism, Environmentalism, Adventure, Leadership, and Service)

-Every Thursday morning either a faculty member or a senior will speak either sharing a story, advice, or reflection to inspire and connect with underclassmen
